Weekend Round Up | What I Wore | White Plus

It seems that the last few days of Summer are truly upon us. The days are still sunny and warm, but with a cooler start and a much cooler end. The upcoming Autumn days are the warning that wearing all black and rugging up through Winter is looming.

So, white seems right. For right now.

Off to work I go so I wore : White jeans from Zara, have I mentioned how much I love white jeans? Always a clean crisp look. Dressed up or dressed down. The perfect base. This week I added a new seasons denim shirt, also from Zara. It seems the denim on denim look is not going anywhere, so I caved and got with the trend. This one is light weight, so it can be worn under a fur vest or jacket when it gets chilly and it won’t be tight under another sleeve.

But for now, it’s an easy option for the crisp mornings. And it is a great blue. My aqua Hermes belt is a another little pop of colour, and the leopard print stilettos from Guess, are the perfect trans seasonal kick.

Sunday night catchup with girlfriends at my house to watch the premiere of The Real Housewives of Melbourne.

Finally the successful housewives franchise comes to us! And I loved it. A warm night happily sipping daiquiris and oohing and aahhing at the Housewives.

So I wore : A white silk Zara zip up top. Denim Jeans and my new black Fedora from Witchery. I am a hat girl. All occasions…and not saved just for bad hair days! Hats add a certain swagger, a conversation starter and I’m all for them. This Fedora is the perfect shape. I’m betting it will be my new Winter staple.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will start to see a common thread. Jeans.. Zara…Capelets…Practically every day is pretty much a simple combination of the same outfits. And this one is no different. Same styles, just new seasons options.

Design meetings so I wore : Zara Ink new seasons skinny jeans, which I am loving. The colour is a nice change from the faded and the super dark. Inky and moody. Grab some. A black Calvin Klein knit singlet and my I’m a super hero today..White Lace Capelet from Sass & Bide.

I fell in love with the caplet a couple of years ago. And Sass & Bide nail it every time. It is a versatile, chic item of clothing, and can be dressed totally way up, or dumbed totally way down. Exactly how I like to dress.

It has been a busy and exciting week, hence the lateness of this post, but most importantly finding time for a catch up with friends, a date with my kids, and some brilliant new design projects…a good week. I hope you are enjoying yours too….

Fabulous Friday | 100 year old Chic Eco Timber Tiles

Fabulous Friday | 100 year old Chic Eco Timber Tiles

Swoon….I’ve stumbled across the perfect combination of organic rustic and designer chic. Introducing my new friend Renaza… a range of mosaic timber tiles, created from 100 year old recycled sustainable boating hardwood.

Copyright Eliot Cohen - Zeitgeist Photographyemail:

This amazing product is the latest collection from Bella Lujo. A high end supplier of all things fancy and fantastic in finishes and fixtures…Renaza is Spanish for ‘Reborn’ and how apt is that for this stunning tile? Weathered and vintage looking from a lifetime crashing through the ocean, this tile oozes character and history.

Copyright Eliot Cohen - Zeitgeist Photographyemail:

Application can be both internally or externally. Used as a small feature panel in a bathroom or ceiling panel in the bedroom…or create major drama with a massive wall of tumbled timber on an outside feature wall in the garden or by the pool.

Available in 2 sizes, 300 x 300 or 300 x 600, it is actually surprisingly affordable for such a unique product. At around $249 p/m, the first shipment sold out in 2 weeks…all from word of mouth! Maybe that has something to do with the eco- friendly aspect, and the fact that no 2 tiles are the same. Ensuring the character of each project is totally unique.

My design company, White Chalk Interiors, is currently refurbishing a commercial project in Adelaide, The Union Hotel. We will be using this Rustico tile on a new feature internal wall in the bar area. A perfect blend of a modern organic feel to a busy chic CBD Hotel. I can’t wait to see it installed.

Weekend Round Up | What I Wore | Jumpsuits

Weekend Round Up | What I Wore | Jumpsuits

Today is the day. A Jumpsuit.

Have I pushed too far into the fashion faux paus vortex…or maybe.. not far enough?? Jump for joy, this is the once piece of clothing you can definitely throw on for those moments when you have no idea what else to wear!

Celebrities have embraced the jumpsuit. All colours, all styles and on all occasions.

I think it’s best to keep the jumpsuit sexy. Glammed up, think metallic belt and super high sexy stilettos for a cocktail party or girls night out. High heels are a must for this latest fashion trend. If you decide to take it down a notch and wear this look during the day, downplay the accessories or hair otherwise it may come off all Elvis Impersonator in Vegas. That is probably not the best look.

I have to admit, when I wore this outfit last week, it was actually super comfy, and with a Jacket to break up the onsie look, I wasn’t nearly as self conscious as I thought I might be. And, I have to tell you it is quite flattering. Especially across the tummy line, plus it helps elongate the leg. Always a plus.

Here are some other looks that hopefully will encourage you to gently go towards the jumpsuit trend.

So are you game?

This week we are chatting about hanging mirrors when they are in a pattern…It needs to be done right and a few simple tips will ensure that you do it right….

Weekend Round Up | What I Plan to Wear | Indigo Jeans

Weekend Round Up | What I Plan to Wear | Indigo Jeans

Indigo and fur

So, when it’s 40 plus degrees, the last thing you feel like doing is shopping for Winter clothes…especially Jeans. Am I right?

Well, if you can drag yourself away from the icy aircon or the refreshing pool…head out to the shops and grab the first round of the new seasons fashions for the cooler months ahead. It is worth it. Get ahead of the game and be fashion ready when the days become shorter and the nights turn mild.

I am quietly crushing…rephrase that…loudly crushing on…Indigo coloured skinny jeans.

Not as obviously heavy as the dark blue denim cousin, not as fresh as the lighter faded blue sister…Indigo denim is a touch Rock’ n ‘Roll, an Inky alternative without losing the denim edge. Maybe edgier?

I just purchased these Zara Basic Denim INDIGO Skinnies…They are flattering, even for a fuller figure…(trust me on this…the Xmas holiday bulge refuses to leave) and at $69.95..the price is bang on. One season only if you wish for this price. I have yet to wear them..But I am almost, almost…ready for a cooler day so i can wear those bad boys. Here are some other options for you to choose from…

[ Authentic Skinny Cropped Ankle Jeans, From Just Jeans $79.95]

[ 7 For All Mankind The Rich Sateen from Rag & Bone $325 ]

[ Rag & Bone Skinny Indigo $229 ]

[ Zara Basic Denim Indigo $69.95 ]

The Emerson | Melbournes New Summer Playground |

The Emerson | Melbournes New Summer Playground |

Melbourne has new player in the rooftop terrace and club scene.

The Emerson. A grown up playground with the biggest roof top bar outside of the CBD. A relaxed vibe with a 360* view of the city skyline and Sth Yarra, It has a very Sydney feel. Casual chic. Helped by a recent $12 million makeover, the Heritage listed Market Hotel has been redesigned and it is stunning.

The interior is a sophisticated mix of superb finishes and bespoke features. It was designed by M-Use, the New York
firm behind superstar venues China Grill (New York, Las Vegas, Miami). The result is a series of intimate spaces lending a boutique feel and allowing guests to choose their level of involvement over three levels.

We visited The Emerson mid week and only the Rooftop terrace was open. It is fresh, with a Palm Springs / Ivy type feel. Crisp outdoor colours with loads of timber decking to soften the white framed outdoor seating and latte fabrics.

I have a penchant for all things Gold. My favourite design element was the glossy white round Mosaic floor tiles, mixed with Gold Round Mosaic tiles in a random hexagon pattern. Understated Glam. The Gold tiled bar faces and the Gold bottle display boxes. Just enough metallic. Coupled with the light Scandi Bar furniture, peacock textured walls and uplit Onyx Communal tables…it is simply the best blend of design I have seen in a hotel environment in Melbourne in a long while.

This isn’t your usual drinking joint. The Emerson has been custom designed for those wanting a little more glamour in their day..So press 3 in the private lift and head up to the top floor, order a cocktail and sit back on the day beds and watch the beautiful people mingle.

White Chalk Interiors Design Tip | Guest Room Makeover Part One

This week we are installing furniture for our clients’  guest room on a beautiful estate in the country. The key is not to overdo the room as it has a natural stone wall, which is the feature. The velvet bedhead is my favourite piece so far…
