The official start of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is Derby Day. It’s an exciting day because it heralds the first race day of the VRC Racing week. Derby Day is known to be the glamorous day at the track. Traditional Black and White is to be worn. Some people miss the B & W memo, however most stick to the tradition and don the monochromatic palette.
It was an early start for me with the hairdresser booked for 730am, and the plan to be on the train heading to the Flemington Race track by 1015. With kids to juggle and my eldest deciding to join me at the last minute, it was a rush to be out the door in time. Yet somehow we managed to pull it together and step out all Black n White and race ready!
A super day ahead. So I wore: Chanel Black and Ivory patent pumps, (bought in paris a few years back and amazingly comfortable, which is key to these long days of standing and walking.) Zara White Cotton pencil skirt, Black Peplum and Jewel top from Thurley, and my fascinator was a purchase from last year at David Jones. I tend to buy head pieces and hats when I see them, not necessarily leading up to racing season, and then accessorise with them when needed. I rarely will buy a new outfit for Spring Carnival, and I go every year to a number of events. Teamed with Cream Chanel clutch, Witchery Drop Earrings and Ray Bans..we were on the train.
We headed into the Birdcage, which is the celebrity spotting haven, and wandered past stunning marquees, stunning celebrities, and stunning food and drinks. Lucky enough to get some snaps with a few of the who’s who’s was the highlight of a fabulous day.
