Weekend Round Up…What I Wore to Lunch and Run..

Taking time off is important. Very important. The never ending battle for work life balance seems to be a never ending struggle. I love hanging out with my family..and my girlfriends. So when a girls lunch is booked  mid week..its on like donkey kong.

The annual Royal Childrens Hospital lunch at Crown Casino is a great day out. Its a fund raiser and its is a fun..raiser…I try try to go every year and last week was no exception. Fashion parades, entertainers, glamorous people..some not so glamorous people..lots of champs and lots of laughs.

So I wore : Christian Louboutin Suede and Clear kicks..the most comfortable heels for a long day out. Sass & Bide Black wool and Gold Metal pants, Zara Citrus silk shirt for a pop of colour, Forever New Cream Blazer and my chunky gold Chanel Chain.

The fun has be brought into check..Gym time..sweat out the bubbles..

So I Wore:  3/4 2xu black gym pants, Adidas Runners, Intimo orange tank, Cotton On Citrus long sleeve tee. Colour and movement..should help right?

Fabulous Friday..The Merrywell @ Crown

For some unknown reason these days when I head out for a girls lunch, it ends up being a ladies lunch – slash – dinner. 12 hours is the norm and Wednesday was no different. A group of us had been at the Crown Casino Palladium Room for a charity lunch, and once that was done…we headed to The Merrywell.

Located at the Promenade end of the the Casino complex…the Merrywell has a breathtaking view of the Melbourne city skyline…the fire towers and to be honest..a very Vegas feel. Sitting on the Upper deck overlooking the city, sipping on Mojitos fresh from the jars…you could be anywhere in the world.

The Merrywell - 1200g Caveman Steak with Onion Rings and Sauces - KARON PHOTOGRAPHY.jpg-534x286

Its the newest burger joint in town and it’s full USA. Full heart attack on a plate. Fried macaroni n cheese balls… | To Die For |..fillet of steak with crispy onion rings, mini slider burgers with wagyu beef and bacon aoli…thick cut chips…if its fried…its there. And what better way to finish the day of chilled champagne, salmon entree, and chicken breast mains…than to chug Mojitos and eat sliders…

The actual fit out of this bar / restaurant is pretty cool. Dark timber panels, leather banquette seating around the fire place, quirky cartoon style art in the bathrooms…It’s slightly more upscale than a gastro pub…but slightly less formal  than a full upmarket restaurant common throughout the Crown Complex.

I loved it. I want to go back. On a Friday night when, according to the bar tender, the  tunes are ‘off the chart’ and the bar turns to a mini after work dance off. Sounds like fun…Oh…and those mac n cheese fried balls…yep definitely going back for those mac n cheese balls…

Mt Buller Ski Weekend…Eat and Drinks Diary…

Winter. I love the thought of a snow filled weekend. I love the thought of skiing all morning and then enjoying hot chocolates and hot cinnamon donuts…and then hitting the slopes again. But I mainly love the thought of a quick trip destination, and this is where Mount Buller takes the cake. Just 3.5 hrs from city door to chalet door, it’s the perfect mountain of choice from the Melbourne CBD.

If you are planning a trip to Buller, drive to Mansfield and I then suggest taking the bus from Mansfield up to the village. Its is efficient and reasonably priced, and certainly takes the pressure off putting chains on your wheels and driving on the icy, steep road. Easy. From the village you can take a free shuttle or taxi to your accommodation. We chose to stay at the Enzian Hotel On Chamois, an old school hotel that was an easy walk from the main village central…and also a ski in ski out for the Chamois Run…which is a Blue Run, but with a sharp right turn turns fully black. It’s less crowded then the main Bourke St Run and a great practice section.

Night One : The Powder Bar located at the base of the Bourke St Run in the main village…is the perfect place to sit, sip and watch the ski and board patrol fly down the slopes. Did someone say Aperol?…Yes they did and I for one am so glad. A refreshing drink, paired with an antipasto platter and the best prosciutto and rocket pizza…ever…a brilliant way to unwind, acclimatise and apres ski…without actually skiing..yet.

Night Two : Skiing is exhausting. It is probably the most exhausting activity to do whilst ‘relaxing’. The layers of warm outfits, the boots, the skis, the gloves, the helmet, the poles..the everything! By the end of the first full day of skiing, every muscle knows its been working. A late dinner at Pats Pizza located in the Central Square was all we could muster. With snow falling and winds hitting 120km per hour…being outdoors for any longer than necessary was a challenge. Pasta, red wine, a hot shower and an early night.

Night Three: Ok..The body still sore and stiff but the mind is ready to check out a more upmarket venue. Mt Buller definitely seemed to be lacking a contemporary bar or restaurant, and I had researched venues to visit prior to leaving Melbourne and all evidence points to The Snow Pony…It is a chic, snow cave combining modern with traditional chalet, log walls, cowhide fire walls, antler chandeliers and my favourite..the dark moody marble bar. Go here. Drink one of the famous ‘winter warmers’…a heady combination of fragrant and definitely potent, mix of Jaegermeister, gluhwein, cinnamon, cloves and star anise. Delicious. Upmarket Apres Ski at its best.

So if you are planning a quick weekend getaway, and you want snow, book now. The snow was falling hard and it was the perfect winter wonderland.

Weekend Round Up…What I Wore Après Ski…

Weekend Round Up…What I Wore Après Ski…

This past week has been the perfect balance of work and play…my youngest turned 11…so celebrations all around…work is crazy busy which is fantastic…my middle daughter headed to China with school for 5 weeks…so that is a major anxiety producer…my remedy??…head for the mountains and let distraction do its thing…

Even the most novice skier on the slopes knows…it’s not how well you ski down the’s how good you look at the bar!…

Night One…Drinks with friends..So I Wore: Bonds thick  black leggings, Chanel quilted black flat boots, Metalicus Stretch long sleeve T, Phlanel Fur Vest, Witchery short sleeved wool knit and my new favorite hat…a cream wool peaked beanie from a pop up shop for $5…The Powder Bar at the bottom of the Bourke St slope was a warm and cosy watering hole.

Night Three and it’s all about the fur…The snow is the absolute best place to rock out the fur ensembles…with little or no judgement from others…well..its less obvious judgement perhaps!…

I Wore : Witchery black skinny jeans, same Chanel boots but with the necessary ’90s evil..the grey faux fur leg warmer…purchased online recently for $15, long black puffer coat from Giordano, Guess metallic knit, layering black thermals…( a must ) a white Zara T, the Forever New faux fur Cossack Hat and cashmere scarf…The venue of choice was the Snow Pony…a chic bar and restaurant…for sure my favourite hang out on the mountain

I love the snow skiing atmosphere…but I love wearing the furs a little more…

Fabulous Friday…Skiing Holiday…Chalet in Style..

Im heading off to the slopes of Mt Buller for the weekend and taking the kids skiing…We are novelty skiers, let me make that clear…but it’s exciting to know that in a few hours we will be amongst the white powdery slopes, sitting by a warm fire, sipping hot chocolates and taking in the whole ski village atmosphere…thats almost the best part for me..and checking out the apres ski fashion of course!

Apres Ski Wear

There is nothing better than after a strenuous day of skiing..or snow ploughing…then to indulge in a spa or massage…your body needs to recover somehow from the stress of not breaking any bones..and although a shot of Schnapps is always a helper…a swim may be better…

Skiing in Europe or Colorado are usually where the celebrities particular Aspen..or Zermatt Peak in Switzerland and Chamonix in the French Alps..and if you want to share a chairlift with a star then head to there to take in all the glamour of  Hollywood Skiing..

Chamonix French Alps

I was lucky enough to ski in Chamonix a few years ago and it was truly spectacular..The height of those mountains is intoxicating and taking the Gondola up to the highest peak is crazy scary..sliding most of the way down on your backside…is just plain crazy!

Whether you are a gun on the slopes..or a more timid skier, looking the part is the bar..nobody knows what level you are always dress the part…Loving these Chanel Goggles..however if I bought these…I probably couldn’t afford the ski hire! I’ll stick with my Oakleys thanks…Have a wonderful weekend..
