There is never a more iconic and famous brand is the sunglass industry, as the Ray Ban Brand. Few sunglasses have occupied such a storied place in American culture and history.
From Presidents to movie stars, rock stars to artists, fashion designers to runway models, there’s not a generation alive that can’t remember owning a pair of these iconic sunglasses.
Founded in 1937 by Bausch & Lomb, the first Ray Ban sunglasses were created for the U.S. Army Air Corp. The Army was looking for a sunglass to protect aviators from the damaging rays of the sun, but also a sunglass that would look elegant on the dashing airman of the day.
Throughout the 50s and 60s, Ray Ban Wayfarers were the sunglass of choice for everyone from Bob Dylan, to Andy Warhol, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Roy Orbison, John Lennon and countless average American teenagers who just wanted to look cool on the beach.
In the eighties..I discovered the black classic Wayfarer Ray Bans..Thankyou Madonna! I wore them through my high school years and then literally packed them away as we hit the opulent nineties and forgot about them. Until recently…I found my original Ray Bans and have been sporting them with an inner semi cool pride. My daughter friends are super impressed that sometime, way back, I might have been hip…my words..probably not theirs!
Now..the Hollywood stars and music icons are still wearing this classic eyewear.
Mirrored aviators are chic and cool and very sexy, black Wayfarers are old school and understated..Choose either..just make sure you do…
As a follower of this blog…you may have noticed a theme on my fashion posts. I’m a major pants wearer. Its my go to. Jeans of all types and cuts, but mainly of the skinny leg variety are the key player in my weekly wardrobe. I feel comfortable in pants, so therefore its an easy breezy choice when I’m dressing for work or play.
Monday: I usually start work later on Mondays..easing into the week by doing a workout with a girlfriend, then coffee..then work. Last week I wanted to start with a bang, so I chose the Hot Pink Zara silk jacket. A white CK tee, and shiny charcoal skinny jeans from Country Road. New black suede winter kicks..note the sturdy sensible heel for day on your feet..and a fluro necklace courtesy of my 10 year old daughter.
Friday: I will admit, this is not my usual style..but I tried to pull off the rocker glam look today..My friend very generously gave me the cool cream cable knit scarf for my birthday..and I love it. Its from Ella Sanders and I think it can be worn with just about anything. The pleather..(faux leather)..biker vest with gold zips and buckles is from Cotton On and a very inexpensive on trend seasonal piece…Thankyou daughter 17 for letting me raid your wardrobe..A black Zara tee, Light grey skinny jeans from Zara, the black cuff from Thurley and a generous girlfriends gift to me.. Black suede pumps and Gold Persol shades..and I was ready to bum a ride on a Harley to work…Peace out..
Saturday: I was invited to celebrate my friends birthday lunch at the infamous St Kilda restaurant, Sapore..and all girls event..seems to be a fabulous common theme at the moment and I’m loving these 12 hour lunches! It was a mild day, so I figured I should pull out the Zara white gold zipper jeans..again.. before its too cold to get away with it..the wardrobe staple..CK white tee..and my fluffy, furry, super comfy, baby lamb vest from the label Phaedra in the states. This is such a statement piece and you either love or hate it..but there’s no denying that everyone wants to touch it regardless! The earrings were another generous gift from a friend…Amazing Husk Gold and Emerald green drops that are so cool. A bunch of gold arm candy, mixing it up with the Hermes Gold and White, the Kitty gold multi and “the journey is the reward “bangle..team that with a Louis Vuitton cocktail ring, Witchery snake skin and black pantent stilettos..and I’m pretty sure I should have turned in the mirror and taken something off…hmmm..but I didn’t..
It seems…I’m following the more is more rule this week!
So, with the weather starting to turn a little cooler..inspiration to work out requires a little more effort. If you are like me..you need sunshine, a beach, a trainer, a friend, a strong latte..and no excuses..and sometimes, the balls do not all line up. So dragging myself to the gym before or after work..doesn’t always go to plan. The back up plan?..Home Gym… Nothing better than working out anytime day or night..without even having to brush your hair or put on lippy!
In my line of work..I have been lucky enough to design both full commercial fitness centres and stay at home gyms for my clients. The common goal in both environments, is to create a space that is both functional and inspiring.
The size of the space isn’t usually an issue. Its the ambience and equipment that can make or break your home gym. Decide what the goal is, whether is weights, cardio, relaxation..or all 3.
Personally, all I need a running machine, some light weights and a big screen with loud music. Sounds simple enough. But if you have a huge room to design..go all out and install your very own basket ball court…
Whatever you choose..there are no excuses not to work out. Rain, hail or shine…you can break a sweat..all in the comfort of your own home. Even the master ensuite can double as your work out room.
Are you convinced? Time to drag out the yoga mat, the leg warmers and get your fitness on…You’ll be pleased that you did.
I will try to explain how the combination of how a black and white floor affects me…my heart speeds up ever so slightly..I lean into the magazine or computer to get up close and personal…I imagine my house, office or my clients homes..all with black and white floors..I swoon..It is a signature style that I adore.
Kate Spade, one of the worlds famous fashion and lifestyle designers..has her store concepted with this dramatic black and white striped floor. It sings.
This geometric black and white floor is paired with a savvy teal wall, dark timber credenza and the pair of racing green feature lamps..a traditional look mixed with a pop of contemporary always works…
Hexagon is no stranger to the black and white family either..the shapes entwined are stunning and this creates a base like no other..this is my favourite..
Black and white doesn’t have to be living large to create drama..this small pattern teamed with carrara marble may be tiny in size but huge in impact.
Angular gloss tiles sit proud against this masculine dark timber panelling along this hallway and the effect is paramount..
Classic black and white chequer board, black and white staircase, wall panels and a feature light..all adds up to perfection for me..
My favourite combo of all time rocking it out..chevron ebony and ivory style…Divine..
My week wrapped with a brilliant girls only lunch on Saturday..to celebrate my recent birthday..I’ve been very lucky..some may even say..self indulgent..to celebrate 3 times this month..but if you can’t rely on you to celebrate you..What hope is there??
The working week was as per usual, a chaotic crazy mix of meetings, site checks, new client liaison and full design of bathrooms, houses, commercial spaces and trying to remember to breathe..most important and mostly under rated…
Friday: Gold fever on work day is often mandatory. I chose the black Stilt Skinny pants as the base..and layered the gold fever..Wittner suede and gold glitter work style boots, glam and practical..adore..The gold metallic sheer oversized Cachel shirt from Hawaii, teamed with my baby lamb peachy and creamy fur vest..This vest is statement unto its own..and its fun to wear. Classic vintage black Ray Bans..enough said.
Saturday: Rush to early morning kids sport, rush to early morning kids play rehearsal, rush to early morning kids netball..a quick run at the gym in between the drop offs..and then it was off to the salon for my weekly blow wave…my sanity all rolled up in a big round brush. I was hosting a birthday lunch with my girlfriends at Dandelion Restaurant, in Elwood. I wanted to dress it up a little, so I chose the Sass & Bide Black cigarette pant with the Gold embellishment. A new black sheer shirt from Witchery, which I chose to wear nothing underneath but an Intimo black lace bra..Bit daring..New kicks from Witchery..super skinny high heel black patent and peach snake skin detail..Loving these as my winter go to chic heel..Black and gold diamante drop earrings and the gold Louis Vuitton cocktail ring…and I was off to enjoy a fabulous day with friends… a celebration of how lucky I am to have the people in my life that I do..Thankyou girls..and with that long 12 hour lunch done….my birthday month extravanganza is officially over…Until next year..
Hello Hollywood Regency…you are one of my favourite design aesthetics..and nobody does it better then talented uber chic designer Kelly Wearstler. Kelly W has redesigned worldwide, the Viceroy Hotel Group, and each property has her signature style. I have been lucky enough to stay at the Viceroy Santa Monica in California..and it was superb. When I hear the word Limoges..It conjours up all things elegant, chic and super French. Limoges..oozes class and style. Ive always wanted a tea set from this world renowned company, but its a costly collection that I am yet to start…But I’m crossing my fingers …
So I’ve recently given up drinking coffee…not sure how long this will last, but I must say, I am feeling better..Now the headaches are gone!..The tea phase has well and truly started in my house, and I’m loving it..
There is something quite soothing about making a pot of tea..and to be honest, I’ve never really understood it..until now..It is actually quite a ceremony to brew a herbal pot..so it is only fair to take time to sit back and enjoy the aroma and taste, in a perfectly quaint tea cup..
Being the complete novice that I am..I headed straight to T2..with a barrage of questions of what teas do what..how do i brew it the best…and most importantly..what knick knacks can I purchase for my new found crush…Herbal Tea!
I’m under caffeinated, yet mildly excited to try the myriad of blends available..so far the Lemon and Ginger is the winning combo for me hands down..and with winter upon us in no time..I think this will be my chilly morning fave of the future..
With an endless array of deep cups, short cups, wide cups, oversized cups, delicate handles, no handles….it just goes on and on..here a my faves thus far all cozily wrapped into my top 4 picks…

Mavi faded skinny jeans, the hint of bling with a wide gold belt, a Fluer Wood classic grey tee with pockets and a recent buy, the Witchery grey and ivory wool long wrap cardigan..these cardi’s are winter staples in my opinion ..Dressed up or down..A chic look…The oak grey Boots from Betts…yep, Betts.. are comfy enough to stomp around in all day…

This almost makes me want to have another baby…only to decorate the nursery like this…love it
Hollywood Regency Glamour 101 with this mirrored Fleur de Lys paper and mirrored dining table..
Even the kitchen can be fully dressed with paper on the ceiling..this yellow Chinoiserie is stunning and this kitchen is totally Stepford Wives.
Masculine bee hive shapes in brass and teal adds interest to the feature light and simple wall colour combinations.
Bringing the indoors out..this Marrakesh inspired pattern brings a heady opulent feel to a simple space.
Think about which room you want to create drama and interest and just go ahead and do it…and I promise you won’t ever need to lie back and think of England again…
